Project information systems have become indispensable for maintaining multiple projects in companies. Project information system can exist in many different forms, as custom developed solution or as integral information solution. In this article we describe how different project information systems work in companies and in government administration and we present practical guidelines and trends that should be considered when implementing such system.

A renewal of an information system does not mean just a purchase of new hardware and new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)solution. Such renewal must take into consideration especially fulfilment of business needs of a company, business processes, effects on business operations and also the abilities of employees and effects on them. For these reasons, a renewal of information system is one of most complex activities companies undertake. Especially, while it often exposes a necessity for a complete renewal of companies operations. An approach must therefore take into considerations strategic directions of companies business that can be properly formed into a holistic information system.

Total quality assurance of the information solutions development projects represents the inclusion of quality through a systematic approach to the process of development. The process of total quality assurance can be divided into more consecutive steps, where planning plays an important part. The results of planning are quality goals and activities of quality assurance and quality control. One of the typical activities mentioned above is the process of testing, which represents one of the key activities within the total quality assurance of information solutions. In the process of testing we search and record errors and deficiencies in the operation of informational solution, which are based on previously determined set of cases and scenarios. In this article, we present the approach to the realization of testing. The realization emphasizes that testing is not only an activity, which has to be carried out at the end of the development phase. It is important for the realization of testing to be efficient, because testing represents a major part of the total cost of the information solution's development. The improper realization can increase the part of the total cost considerably. On the other hand, the correct and appropriate realization of testing can contribute significantly to the reduction of costs of technical support and maintenance of the informational solution.

In this article we present the value of investment planning for the success and efficiency of IT projects. It often happens that managers see the development of information systems only from the project point of view and forget to take a look from the investment perspective. Such attitude can rapidly influence IT projects efficiency. It is true that common project life cycle mostly covers the investment cycle in construction phase of the IT system. But this does not go for preparatory and post implementation or production phase of the system. Using exclusively project point of view may cause that all project alternatives have not been identified at early stages of the investment process and that costs and benefits of the system are not documented in a way that assures rational decisions as regards the project realization. Such attitude may also cause only partial view on IT system life cycle and underestimation of maintenance and other associated costs in the production phase, which usually can be rather then low. The use of IT investment policy, standards and documents (feasibility study and post implementation review) may in no small measure contribute to the IT projects efficiency. The value of investment planning and preparation of quality investment documentation can also be in easier resource and budget gathering for the IT projects as they have to more and more aggressively compete for limited resources with other projects in selected business or public environment.

An upgrade and integration of the MJR module with system ISARR was implemented in 2004. A client's urgent need to solve an information support to carry out a public competition, demanded a quick development of the MJR module. In order not to exceed dead lines, methodologies of classic developmental cycle of information solutions had to be abandoned. The purpose of this article is to represent a methodological solution - the use of adapted agile Scrum methodology, the principles of which contributed to a satisfactory and timely solution.
